Yesterbook Terms of Use

1. Acceptance and scope

Welcome to Yesterbook. These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Guangzhou Midao Technology Co., Ltd. (“Midao,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) governing your download, installation, and use of Yesterbook and related services. Please also read the Yesterbook Privacy Policy.

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Yesterbook, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not continue to use the app. Minors should use Yesterbook only after a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms where required.

2. The service

Yesterbook is a local-first journal with multiple entries per day, drafts, photos, moods, places, weather, a 24-hour editing window, append-only notes after sealing, monthly editions, calendar, search, footprint map, Trash, App Lock, local reminders, and optional iCloud sync. Features vary by app version, device capability, system version, and region.

Core writing does not require a Midao account. Apple Account, iCloud, maps, location, weather, notifications, and device authentication are Apple services governed by Apple’s terms and your device settings.

3. License and intellectual property

If you comply with these terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use Yesterbook for non-commercial purposes on compatible Apple devices you own or control.

The software, interface, brands, graphics, layouts, copy, and related intellectual property belong to us or their respective owners. Except where law permits or we agree in writing, you may not copy, rent, sell, redistribute, reverse engineer, bypass technical restrictions, or create infringing derivative works from Yesterbook. Open-source components remain subject to their own licenses.

4. Your content and responsibilities

You retain your rights in text, photos, places, and other content you write or import. These terms do not transfer ownership of that content to us. You permit the app to technically process it only as needed to run, display, sync, and back up features on your devices and in the private iCloud storage you choose to enable.

You are responsible for having the right to record and use your content. Do not use Yesterbook to violate privacy, publicity, copyright, or other rights, or to engage in unlawful activity. Take care when recording another person’s sensitive information and before sharing a device, screenshot, or exported material.

5. The 24-hour editing and sealing rule

After you commit an entry, that entry has its own 24-hour editing window. When the window ends, the original text, photos, and recorded context become sealed in the app and cannot be directly rewritten. You can still append time-stamped notes. This is a core Yesterbook product rule.

Sealing is calculated from device time, entry state, and app records. Changing system time, restoring older backups, editing offline on several devices, or using abnormal methods may create conflicts. The app applies its established synchronization and conflict rules, but we do not guarantee results obtained by circumventing time or sync behavior. Review an entry before committing it and before its window closes.

Sealing is not notarization, legal evidence preservation, or a tamper-proof certification service and should not replace a professional evidence service.

6. Data, backups, and sync

You are responsible for protecting your device passcode and Apple Account and maintaining backups appropriate to your needs. iCloud sync depends on network access, account status, storage capacity, system services, and Apple’s operation. It may be delayed, conflict, or become temporarily unavailable. Yesterbook aims to keep local writing available when iCloud is unavailable.

Entries in Trash remain for the period shown in the app. When that period ends or you choose permanent destruction, they cannot be recovered within Yesterbook. Offline devices and system backups may retain older copies until they reconnect or update. Uninstalling the app does not necessarily delete iCloud data. 7. Optional permissions and third-party services

You decide whether to enable location, photo selection, notifications, Face ID, Touch ID, device passcode authentication, and iCloud. Declining an optional permission makes the related feature unavailable but does not block core writing features that do not depend on it.

The App Store, iCloud, CloudKit, MapKit, Core Location, WeatherKit, LocalAuthentication, and notification services are provided by Apple. Their availability, data handling, and service obligations are governed by Apple. Outages, policy changes, or regional restrictions may affect the relevant features and are outside our control, though we will make reasonable efforts to adapt.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

• damage, interfere with, or bypass security, access controls, or the sealing mechanism in Yesterbook or related system services;
• introduce malicious code or exploit a vulnerability to attack the app, another person, Apple services, or our infrastructure;
• copy, sell, rent, or distribute the app without permission, or impersonate Yesterbook, Midao, or their brands;
• use the app to create, store, or distribute unlawful content or content that violates another person’s rights; or
• otherwise use the app outside normal personal-journal purposes in a way that harms us, a service provider, or another person.

9. Updates, changes, and discontinuation

We may issue updates or change or discontinue features to fix problems, improve security, support system changes, or improve the experience. We will communicate material changes reasonably through the product page, release notes, or the app. Older versions may lose access to online or system features for security or compatibility reasons.

If we plan to discontinue the service as a whole, we will provide advance notice where legally required and reasonably possible and aim to give you time to handle local data. You may stop using and uninstall Yesterbook at any time. Manage local and iCloud data before uninstalling.

10. Service limitations and responsibility

Yesterbook is a personal journaling tool. It does not provide medical, mental-health, legal, notarization, evidence-preservation, weather-warning, or emergency services. Location and weather may be delayed or inaccurate and should not be the sole basis for safety, travel, or other important decisions.

We use reasonable care to maintain security and availability, but software, devices, networks, and third-party services can fail. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yesterbook is provided “as is” and “as available,” without promises beyond those required by law that it will always be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for every individual need.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, personal injury, mandatory consumer rights, or other liability that cannot legally be excluded. Responsibility for loss caused by device failure, Apple-service outages, user error, compromised accounts, or events outside reasonable control is allocated as applicable law requires.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of mainland People’s Republic of China, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We encourage the parties to first try to resolve a dispute informally. If that fails, either party may bring a claim before a court with jurisdiction where the operator is located, except where mandatory consumer or local law provides otherwise.

12. Updates and contact

We may update these terms as features, business arrangements, or legal requirements change. We will give appropriate notice of material changes. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms, except where separate consent is legally required.
